Exercice du cercle trigonométrique

  • M

    a) " a=b alors cos(a)=cos(b) "
    b) " Si a E [-π/2 ; 0] alors sin(a)<cos(a) "

    A)
    say that cos(A) = cos(B).

This property of the cosine function is useful because it allows you to find the cosine of an angle without knowing the lengths of the sides of the triangle. For example, if you know the measure of an angle in a right triangle and you want to find the cosine of that angle, but you don't know the lengths of the sides of the triangle, you can find the cosine of that angle by finding the cosine of a congruent angle in a different right triangle where the side lengths are known.

Yes, that is correct! If an angle 'a' is in the interval [-π/2, 0] (that is, if the angle 'a' is greater than or equal to -π/2 and less than or equal to 0), then the sine of the angle will be less than the cosine of the angle.

To understand why this is the case, you can look at the unit circle, which is a circle with radius 1 centered at the origin of the coordinate plane. The angles in the unit circle are measured in radians, with 0 radians corresponding to the positive x-axis and increasing counterclockwise.

If an angle 'a' is in the interval [-π/2, 0], then the point on the unit circle that corresponds to that angle will be in the second or third quadrant of the coordinate plane. In the second or third quadrant, the y-coordinate of a point on the unit circle is negative, while the x-coordinate is positive. This means that the sine of the angle will be negative (since the sine of an angle is equal to the y-coordinate of the point on the unit circle that corresponds to that angle), while the cosine of the angle will be positive (since the cosine of an angle is equal to the x-coordinate of the point on the unit circle that corresponds to that angle).

Since a negative number is always less than a positive number, it follows that if an angle 'a' is in the interval [-π/2, 0], then sin(a) < cos(a).

    Bonjour,
